MBP has worked with Shell for over a decade, documenting major projects across the offshore energy sector. At the Egmond aan Zee Offshore Wind Farm in the Netherlands, an export cable fault took 12 of the site’s 36 turbines out of service. Restoring the wind farm to full generating capacity became an important step towards Shell’s ambition to extend its operational life beyond 20 years.
MBP documented the project offshore and onshore, capturing the complex repair operation alongside interviews with Shell’s senior project team. The resulting film explored the project from multiple perspectives, from its strong HSSE focus and innovative use of remotely operated technology to the importance of communication, shared expertise and getting the repair right first time.
At the heart of the story was collaboration. Bringing together Shell, DOF and specialist teams across the project, the film showed how an open working culture and experience from across the offshore energy sector helped overcome challenges and successfully return the affected turbines to service.
The result was a film that went beyond documenting a single cable repair, highlighting Shell’s commitment to extending the life of existing renewable infrastructure and the collaborative expertise required to secure the future of offshore wind.
