MBP worked with DOF to document a complex offshore cable repair at the Egmond aan Zee Offshore Wind Farm in the Netherlands. Following a fault that took 12 of the wind farm’s 36 turbines out of service, DOF was contracted to remove the damaged section of export cable, install a new 450m section and complete two offshore field joints to restore full generating capacity.
A fast-track project, the operation saw DOF rapidly adapt the Skandi Hera, an anchor handling vessel traditionally used for oil and gas operations, with a complete cable repair spread. MBP captured the scale and complexity of the operation through aerial, vessel and close-up technical footage, from ROV deployment and simultaneous crane and winch operations to the intricate cable jointing and deployment process.
Alongside the engineering story, we interviewed DOF personnel transitioning from oil and gas into renewables, exploring how the skills, vessels and experience developed across the offshore energy sector are being applied to new challenges in offshore wind. The resulting content showcased DOF’s technical capability, adaptability and growing role in the energy transition.
